Review & Giveaway: A Heart In The Right Place

Author: Heidi Goody and Ian Grant.
Genre: Horror Comedy, Fiction.
Rating: -

Blurb:

All Nick wants to do is take his dying father for a perfect father-son weekend in the Scottish Highlands. It’s not much to ask, is it? A log cabin, a roaring fire, a bottle of fine whisky and two days to paper over the cracks in their relationship.

However, Nick didn’t plan on making the trip with a dead neighbour in the back of his car. Or the neighbour’s dog. He really didn’t plan on being pursued by a psychotic female assassin intent on collecting body parts. And he really, really didn’t plan on encountering a platoon of heavily armed mercenaries, or some very hungry boars, or a werewolf.

A Heart in the Right Place - a horror comedy about setting out with the very best intentions and then messing everything up.

Cover Review:

The cover is okay, not overtly interesting, but the idea of the cover did spark my interest.

Book Review:

Unfortunately, I couldn't read the book in time for the tour because of some personal issues. But I can tell you that I've read another of the authors' books, and it was really good! So I'm hoping this one will be too.

You can read my review of the other book here: A Spell In The Country.

Review: Catch Me If You Can

Author: Rafaa Dalvi.
Genre: Comedy, Short Story.
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«

Blurb:

What happens when the world's best detective realizes that his prodigy has become a wanted global con artist? Prepare for a wild cat-and-mouse chase around the world.

Cover Review:

The cover is okay, a bit intriguing, simple and nice.

Book Review:

This is going to be a short review since the book itself is just 16 pages long.

Catch Me If You Can was funny, not the kind that makes you roll on the floor laughing, but the kind that makes you giggle in awkward places (like public transport?)

It was a short read, as I said earlier, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I read it over tea, and it was the best way to read it, I believe. I finished the book faster than I finished my tea 😂

Overall, Catch Me If You Can is a short, fun read and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Review: DareDreamers: A Start-up of Superheroes

Author: Kartik Sharma, Ravi 'Nirmal' Sharma.
Genre: Comedy, Fiction.
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸŹ

Blurb:

India’s first start-up of superheroes with a mission of saving lives is here to kick ass.

Rasiq is riding the highs of life thanks to his successes as an investment banker. But his arrogance soon gets the better of him and he ends up losing everything he holds dear. Managing to salvage only his grit from the wreckage, Rasiq reboots his life and teams up with five uniquely talented superheroes to start a rescue venture
- DareDreamers.

These superheroes Nick: a crazy inventor; Halka: an inhumanly strong man; Arjun: a champion shooter; Natasha: a Bollywood stunt-double; Dr. Vyom, a medical Sherlock Holmes; and, of course, Rasiq: the mastermind combine their unique talents to deliver spectacular rescue operations. Their skyrocketing success, however, comes at a price an enemy hell bent on tearing down their fame and reputation.

Will DareDreamers defeat its wily adversary? Or will it become yet another failed start-up?

Treachery, action and adventure come alive to make DareDreamers a page-turner.

Cover Review:

The cover is totally in tune with the storyline, though it isn't as attractive. Still, it's a good enough cover.

Book Review:

I received a copy of this book through the Book Genie Review Program.

DareDreamers was the story of Rasiq and his struggle through a life consuming job to a startup that he dared to start with a bunch of people that had nothing in common except the will to do something big.

The story was full of fun incidents, sweet dialogues and had a firm storyline. There were no plot holes, and the story itself was pretty interesting.

I enjoyed reading DareDreamers thoroughly, especially the scenes that included Rasiq's father. He might just be my favourite character, despite his few appearances. The dialogues between the father and son were the highlight of the book for me. I guess it has something to do with the fact that the authors are also a father-son duo, don't you think so?

I loved the DareDreamers team too, because all of the characters had a special 'power' each, and it reminded me of Marvel movies and Avengers, only without the actual "super powers."

I read the book in two sittings, because once I began reading, I couldn't stop myself. It was engaging, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. I liked that the romance wasn't the central theme of the story, even though there were many couples among the characters.

All in all, DareDreamers was a light, fun read and I'd definitely recommend you to read it!

Review: A Spell In The Country

Authors: Heide Goody & Iain Grant.
Genre: Fantasy, Comedy.
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«

Blurb:

Dee is a Good Witch but she wonders if she could be a better witch.
She wonders if there’s more to life than Disney movie marathons, eating a whole box of chocolates for dinner and brewing up potions in her bathtub. So when she’s offered a chance to go on a personal development course in the English countryside, she packs her bags, says goodbye to the Shelter for Unloved Animals charity shop and sets a course for self-improvement.

Caroline isn’t just a Good Witch, she’s a fricking awesome witch.
She likes to find the easy path through life: what her good looks can’t get for her, a few magic charms can. But she’s bored of being a waitress and needs something different in her life. So when a one night stand offers her a place on an all-expenses-paid residential course in a big old country house, she figures she’s got nothing to lose.

Jenny is a Wicked Witch. She just wishes she wasn’t.
On her fifteenth birthday, she got her first wart, her own imp and a Celine Dion CD. She still has the imp. She also has a barely controllable urge to eat human children which is socially awkward to say the least and not made any easier when a teenager on the run turns to her for help. With gangsters and bent cops on their trail, Jenny needs to find a place outside the city where they can lay low for a while.
For very different reasons, three very different witches end up on the same training course and land in a whole lot of trouble when they discover that there’s a reason why their free country break sounds too good to be true. Foul-mouthed imps, wererats, naked gardeners, tree monsters, ghosts and stampeding donkeys abound in a tale about discovering your inner witch.

Cover Review:

The cover is simple and childish, not something I'd usually pick, but the novel itself is way awesome and I'm glad I did read it!

Book Review:

Hilarious. Entertaining. Full of Action. Absolutely funny. These are the words I'd use to describe this book.

Right from the start, A Spell In The Country has been nothing but a roller coaster ride of jokes, hilarious one liners and heart touching moments.

What do you get when you gather up a bunch of different kinds of witches and make them befriend each other? You get stomach cramps from too much laughing, and you get aching cheeks because of too much grinning!

I read this book a couple of days before my final exams, and trust me, this is exactly what I needed. A good laugh is the best before-exam therapy, and I got that from reading this book.

I'm unable to choose a favorite character because all of them were so awesome in their own ways.

I can go on and on about this book because I loved it so much, but I also need to study so I don't fail. (shivers!)

So I'll take a leave now, and do get your hands on a copy of A Spell In The Country soon because no one should miss out on this one! In Zoffner's words, this book is fab and groovy!

Review: High School Debut

Author: Kazune Kawahara.
Genre: Romance, Comedy, YA.
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«

Blurb:

When Haruna Nagashima was in junior high her life consisted of playing softball and reading comics. But now that she's going to high school, Haruna decides to put all of her energy towards getting a boyfriend and having the high school romance of a lifetime. To help in her quest, she enlists cute upperclassman Yoh Komiyama to coach her as she eschews her jock tendencies and turns herself into the kind of girl who can catch a guy. Yoh agrees, with one catch: Haruna had better not fall for him!

Cover Review

The cover of all the volumes feature the main characters, Yoh and Haruna in cute cute posses. I love them!

Book Review:

This is the second manga I've read and mangas are quickly becoming a favorite. I love how easy to read they are, despite the fact that they're all translated.

I love Yoh's straightforward attitude and Haruna's determination. That girl never gives up. And because of their opposite yet compatible qualities, they're the perfect match for each other!

This one here, is one of my favorite scenes and I'm pretty sure you will understand what I'm talking about with just this one scene.

Tip: Mangas are read from right to left.

I wish the series had been longer than the 15 Volumes it was, but I loved the happy ending and I'm so glad I read it!

Review: Ouran High School Host Club

Author: Bisco Hatori.
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Drama.
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ’–đŸ’–

Blurb:

One day, Haruhi, a scholarship student at exclusive Ouran High School, breaks an $80,000 vase that belongs to the 'Host Club', a mysterious campus group consisting of six super-rich (and gorgeous) guys. To pay back the damages, she is forced to work for the club, and it's there that she discovers just how wealthy the boys are and how different they are from everybody else.

Cover Review:

The covers of all the volumes showcase one or the other character, and therefore, I love them all.

Book Review:

For the first review of 2018, I'm reviewing this Manga that I actually finished reading last year (three days ago) but I was too overwhelmed by it to write a coherent review.

All the way from Volume One to around Volume Eight (not really sure because I read them altogether and there wasn't a specific marker) Ouran Host Club seems to be just a romantic comedy with the usual array of characters. The goofy stupid guy (Tamaki), the nerd (Haruhi), the mischievous (the Hitachin twins a.k.a. Hikaru and Kauro), the cute one (Honinozuka), the serious one (Morinozuka) and the evil one (Kyoya).

But later on, I realized that it was so much more. There was heartbreak (I literally read the last few Volumes with watery eyes), there was pain and there was love.

Listen Haruhi.
I'm me before I'm a Suoh.
And I'm proud of that fact.
-Tamaki Suoh.

I realized that Tamaki isn't all that stupid, that there's a lot about him that no one knows, that there's a lot of pain he overcame to become the aloof guy he is now.

I realized the importance of family and at the same time I understood what depending on family too much would lead to.

Ouran Host Club was not just a High school Romantic Comedy, it was real life.

I had already watched and loved the Anime series before reading this, but the Manga is so much better.

Ouran Host Club has definitely left a mark on me, and I'll never ever forget it. And I'm pretty sure I'll be re-reading it again and again and again.
