Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad's old costume, Elle's determined to win - unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons - before he was famous. Now they're nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake - until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?
Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Cover Review:

The cover is cute as a bunny and I absolutely love it!

Book Review:

As you probably already guessed, the story is at a girl who is a Geek + Cinderella. But it's not just that.

The reason why I absolutely loved Geekerella was because it was so realistic.

The way Elle loves the Starfield fandom so much? That was totally relatable because being a reader, I know exactly how she feels!

Geekerella is every BookWorm's, every Bibliophile's, every Geek's dream novel. It is US.

And it's so effing sweet. There's a lot of heartache, but there are beautiful moments too.

The characters, most prominently Elle, Darien and Sage are each in their own way, perfect. And together, they created one of the best retellings I've ever read.

And with this absolutely awesome book, and this review, I hereby conclude with the last review of the year 2017.

And for 2018, as Carmindor says, "Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite!"

Keeping it all a secret becomes increasingly difficult, yet reveals some interesting developments into their family ties and the history of Redcroft.

Cover Review:

The cover is different on Amazon and Goodreads. So I'll talk about the one up here, which is from Amazon. It looks pretty and represents the time-travel scene perfectly. So thumbs up to the cover!

Book Review:

Thanks to BookGobbler for the review copy!

Time travel is so much fun!

I love how intricately the plot needs to be weaved, so that the past that was written earlier matches what happens in the present. It's so complicated. And therefore, so much fun!

Zak and Natalie were both fun characters to accompany, thought my favorite was Zak's mom Lizzy.

I loved the novel from cover to cover though I felt that it was too short. The ending didn't really seem like an ending, you know?

But even so, I can't say that it wasn't a great read, because it was.

It was pure, without too much fluff and with a lot of action, just the kind of book I was looking for!

Syl Skye. Rouen Rivoche. Star-crossed lovers who should be mortal enemies. This is the story of how they met.

A nightly excursion to DC. A goth-rock show. One innocent train ride. That’s all it takes for high school sophomore Syl Skye’s perfectly normal world to come crashing down.

Because unbeknownst to her, she’s a sleeper-princess of the fair Fae—a vessel of Fae power that has yet to Awaken—and there are dark Fae who want her dead, dead, dead.

Rouen Rivoche is one of those dark Fae. Bound to the Agravaine the dark Fae Huntsman who is dedicated to wiping out all sleeper-princesses, Rouen has no choice but to hunt Syl down and spill her blood.

But a chance meeting in a nightclub, a brush of their hands, a lingering look… Despite herself, Rouen is attracted to Syl. And when she lets Syl get away…that’s when their troubles really begin.
After all, every couple has their issues, right?

Cover Review:

The cover is beautiful. One day, I'm gonna have this on my shelf, I swear!

Book Review:

In the short span of a book and a half (As Derailed is just a Novella) Syl and Rouen a.k.a. Euphoria have quickly become one of my most favorite couples.

They're the perfect good girl, bad girl duo, and together, they're absolutely one of the cutest couples I've ever met.

Derailed was just as awesome as the Book One, Moribund. There was just enough amount of action, destruction, fantasy, evil, good and the butterflies.

Now, I'll excitedly wait for Ouroboros, the book two, and maybe re-read Moribund in the time being.

Derailed was absolutely beautiful and I loved every part of it. It has made the wait for the next book even more unbearable!

By the way, you can read my review of the Book One, Moribund here.

Genre: Poetry.

Remember the first time you uttered those three important words expressing your love or the first time when you said 'goodbye' to your loved one. The first time, you got a jolt in your heart or the first time you held a life in your arms.

Richa Saxena has tried to put forth a compilation of thirty-five surreal poems that would recreate that magic and unleash your deepest thoughts.

Seasons must have passed by, but that feeling still remains in the heart.
Her poems would revive those very thoughts, the ones said and the ones that remained unsaid .

Genre: Poetry.

Blurb:

A testament to the beauty of disorder.

This is a journey through the uncanny mind and heart of an eighteen-year-old. The desire to express has brought me to you, from divinity to bloom.

Each chapter is a gift of poetry, a gift of words waiting for you to be unwrapped, to be felt, to be read.
This is my serenity, in ink.

Cover Review

The cover is simple, yet beautiful in a toned down kinda way. I love the white 💖

Book Review:

First of all, thanks to the author for sending me a paperback copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Serenity In Ink is a collection of poems portraying a variety of themes from Divinity to Parental Love to Heart Break.

The poems were beautiful, meaningful and pretty good. The grammar was correct too and I loved that fact because I've met authors who think that grammar doesn't need to be proper in poetry books. I'm glad this wasn't one of those books!

A successful relationship
Is not only when two people are
Madly in love with
Each other
But when their definition
Of love is
The same.

Though there was something that troubled this grammar Nazi brain of mine. There were absolutely no capital letters. Neither in the poems nor in the Acknowledgments or About the Author section. And that's not a good thing. At all.

But the poems themselves were pretty awesome, the ones in the chapter called Desolation  were especially touching. So I can't say that I didn't enjoy it.

Serenity In Ink was beautiful, not really lyrical but still poetic enough, and I enjoyed reading it a lot!

When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.

Cover Review:

The cover is dark, haunting and utterly compelling. Love it!

Book Review:

Oh My God. This was the most disturbing book I've read till date.

Joe Golberg was an amazingly well crafted character and also a complete creep.

You kept me on my toes as I followed Joe as he literally followed Beck in order to be close to her.

The creepiest fact about this book is that Joe never realizes what he did was wrong. It's unsettling.

Though at the same time, I can't stop myself from giving it the 5 stars rating because it was that brilliantly written.

If you're not afraid of stalkers, crazy -sickos (Beck's word, not mine) then go ahead and read this book! ;)

Clara Delos decides to move back to London when she breaks up with her long-term boyfriend. In her first few weeks back in the city, she gets accepted for an amazing position at one of the country's largest advertising companies, but she quickly realises that it's a little too good to be true. Waiting for her, sat back in her chair, feet on her desk, is one Andrew Contius.

Cover Review:

The only word I can think of to describe this cover is cute. It's not extravagant or overly done, but it's beautiful in its simplicity.

Book Review

A spin-off from the Rules trilogy, Repeating History focuses on the characters Clara and Andrew.

I loved the whole concept of the history that connected them, and also created an intricate web of relations among their friends.

I loved Andrew's Apple fetish and I loved Clara's hate for him and how it changed over time.

At first, I hated Andrew. I hated him more than I hated Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey. And that's a LOT! But then, as with Christian, I came to know Andrew better. And I liked him. I still don't love him, but I do like him.

Clara was a good character but I couldn't 'feel' her, if you know what I mean. The story is told by two POVs, and I definitely loved the Andrew ones.

Also, the ending could have been better, I felt that the book ended there just so another one could be written. Like one book was divided into two (or three?) just to create a series.

All in all though, it was a short, easy and a fun read.

Review: Due North

Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«

For twenty years, Mitzi knew nothing but the comfort of her small magical village in the North Pole and the love of the Claus’ who had adopted her. That was until she was thrust into the real world on an adventure to find her birth parents. Finding love, however, was the last thing on her mind.

The very idea of Christmas made real-life scrooge Amelia Banner ill. A high-end accountant, her days were predictable and orderly, just the way she liked it. Yet even still, Amelia had always felt like there was something missing from her life.

When fate brings Mitzi and Amelia together on a cold December night, they find their lives quickly intertwining. While Amelia helps Mitzi on her journey of self-discovery, she herself discovers a little bit of love for the season. As the two begin to fall for one another, secrets of their lives begin to reveal themselves and their fairytale romance starts to get complicated.
Do Mitzi and Amelia let their past define them? Or do they realize that maybe all they really want for Christmas, is each other?

Cover Review:

The cover is sweet, Christmassy and super cute!

Book Review:

I loved the idea of the novel as well as the characters, and it was a sweet story, and totally festive.

A good Christmas read, but at the same time I found it to be too cheesy.

I liked the storyline, and some of the characters, but I found Mitzi too sweet. Much too sweet.

Though the book was pretty short so I don't mind it much.

Overall, Due North was a cute, sweet read and I enjoyed reading it!

Review: The Ones Who Got Away

Author: Roni Loren
Genre: Romance
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ’–

Blurb:

Liv's words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she'd known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence.

It's been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night—a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.
Liv Arias thought she'd never return to Long Acre—until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs...

Cover Review: Who doesn't like kissing in the rain? The cover is a go go for me because I love romance novels!

Book Review:

The Ones Who Got Away made me cry, then made me laugh-like clutch my stomach, roll on the floor laugh, then made me cry some more and finally left me off with a goofy grin on my face.

I don't think I just read this book, I felt it. I felt it with my heart, every dialogue and every chapter.

Leotards aren't meant to wrangle all that boy business so things...escaped. The rest of the guys called him Glitter Balls for about a year afterwards.

I loved the characters, especially Olivia for her badass attitude.

This review is going to be short because all I have to say about this book are praises. And I don't have a vocabulary good enough to describe just how much I love this book.

I'll be waiting for you when you get home.
However long it takes.
You're worth the wait.

The Ones Who Got Away is definitely going to be one of the books that I'll re-read again and again.

Review: The Legend of The Blue Eyes

Author: B. Kristin McMichael
Genre: Fantasy
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«

Blurb:

Arianna Grace liked her boring, Midwestern, teenage life where she ignored the many unanswered questions of her childhood. Why were her parents dead? Why did she not have family? Where was she raised until she was five? When someone offers to explain it all, Arianna thinks she’s just getting answers. Instead, she is thrown into a world of night humans who drink blood.

On Arianna's sixteenth birthday, her world is thrown upside down when she changes into a vampire. Night humans, or demons, as some call them, live in normal society. Learning all of the new rules of a world she didn’t know existed might be hard enough, but it's further complicated by two former-friends that now want to help her take her role as the successor to her grandfather.
There is a war going on between the night humans. Sides have been taken and lines are not crossed. Four main clans of night humans are struggling for control of the night. Divided into two sides, clans Baku and Tengu have been at war for centuries with the clans Dearg-dul and Lycan. That is, until Arianna Grace finds out the truth; she’s the bridge of peace between the two sides. But not everyone wants peace. With the night humans divided, Arianna is now a pawn in the war between them. She must choose a side—her mother’s family or her father’s—and for once in her life, decide her own fate.

Cover Review:

Umm. . . What can I say about this cover? I'd definitely have picked this book up and read the blurb (and be completely hooked right then) so I guess it's a pretty good one! :)

Book Review:

I loved The Legend of The Blue Eyes! The whole concept was well thought and well written, it was a fun experience, reading this novel.

The characters were all absolutely awesome too, except of course, the villians! I loved Devin for his level headedness, Brenton for his 'I never give a damn about the rules' attitude and Arianna for being the clueless person she is, dragged all through this novel-which is her story-without having the slightest idea of what was going on till halfway through the book. And I don't mean that negatively.

Well sure it was frustrating when everyone kept secrets from her (and me!) but it really helped build the story up to perfection so I'm not too miffed about that.

This book was full of sweet, funny and beautiful moments, and a few heart-breaking ones near the end.

The Legend of The Blue Eyes was beautiful, amazing and utterly unputdownable. I stayed up late (yet again!) to finish this masterpiece.

I can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy! <3

Review: Darker

Author: E.L. James
Genre: Romance, Erotica
Rating: đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«đŸ«

Blurb:

E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe.

Their scorching, sensual affair ended in heartbreak and recrimination, but Christian Grey cannot get Anastasia Steele out of his mind, or his blood. Determined to win her back, he tries to suppress his darkest desires and his need for complete control, and to love Ana on her own terms.

But the horrors of his childhood still haunt him, and Ana’s scheming boss, Jack Hyde, clearly wants her for himself. Can Christian’s confidant and therapist, Dr. Flynn, help him face down his demons? Or will the possessiveness of Elena, his seducer, and the deranged devotion of Leila, his former submissive, drag Christian down into the past?
And if Christian does win Ana back, can a man so dark and damaged ever hope to keep her?

Cover Review:

The cover is the usual gray stuff. Not a fan of it, that's for sure.

Book Review:

I didn't read the first book in this series (The Christian's POV series that is) because I hadn't really enjoyed Fifty Shades Of Grey. I wouldn't have continued reading it then had I not been so curious about Christian's past. And so I read Fifty Shades Darker. I had never imagined that I'd fall in love with it.

So when Darker came out, I knew I had to read it, even if I hadn't read the first one. And I did read it. And loved it even more, if that's possible.

I didn't really know what to expect. I had thought that this book being from Christian's POV would be dark, cold, hard just like he was portrayed in the earlier books. But no. This person was so different from the one I had known. I never thought I'd use this word to describe this person, but Christian Grey in Darker was...cute. Yes, cute! On the inside he sounded just like a teenager. Hurt, confused, in love and human.

So yeah, despite everything, despite all the negative vibes about this book and series, I loved Darker. <3

I'm not sure I'll read the next book when it comes out, because Fifty Shades Darker was my favorite in the series and that's the only reason why I read Darker. Maybe I will. Maybe not.

The Last Book-Haul of 2017

December is here, and my exams are fast approaching. Yet, I managed to snag some really awesome novels in a Book Sale this Sunday!

When I first told my Dad about the sale, he gave me a flat out no, reasoning that I've exams and I need to study!

So I spent the whole shopping trip sulking and saying no to everything he asked me if I wanted. I was really, really sad.

Next thing I know, we're parking in front of the sale venue!

I promised Dad I won't read any of these till my exams end (March 10, ugh!) and finally got to buy these beauties for Rs. 850, around $14.

Here's the list, with Goodreads links if you wanna check any of them out:

The Mystery Of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes.

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult.
(This was the first book I read by Jodi Picoult, though it was a borrowed copy that I read. I finally have my own copy!)

Only To Die Again by Patrick Lee.

Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult.

The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill.

Resurrection Men by Ian Rankin.

Dead As A Doornail by Charlaine Harris.

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult.

A Year At Star And Sixpence by Holly Hepburn.

Fortune's Rock by Anita Shreve.

Have you read any of these? I can't wait for my exams to come and go so I can read these! 💖

Discussion: Avoiding E-Book Piracy.

Why would anyone do that? Why would they steal someone's hard work, only to share them for free with strangers?

A few days ago, I was going through my feed on a social networking site, and I saw something that made me really sad.

Someone had posted the epub files of a series by an Indie author. I knew she was an Indie author because I'd previously been in her review team.

It made me so sad to see all of her hardwork being given out like that for free. I reported the post as well as mailed the author about it. (Though I'm not sure whether she'll be able to take action against it.)

Till now, I'd figured that only the 'famous' books were pirated, but now I know that that's not the case.

The question is, what can an author do?

Indie authors spend out of their own pockets for everything from the cover to the editing. And most of the times, they won't have enough funds to take legal actions.

So what should they do?

I think the easiest way an e-copy gets out onto the internet is through the review copies. (Note: I think.)

The author who's book I saw being pirated mails her ARCs to the readers in epub/mobi files. One of her readers might share the file with a friend, trusting them not to share, but the might and there! The book's being pirated! 🙁

I'm not saying that every reviewer does that. I delete the e-copies as soon as I mail them to my kindle. And I know most reviewers don't do this. But someone might. There's always a chance.

So why not just ask the readers their kindle ID, and send them the book straight to their Kindles/Kindle Apps

I'm not saying that it will totally secure your book, but it may reduce the chances of piracy.

Do you have any more ideas for the authors to safeguard their books? Let me know in the comments and I'll add it to my post!

A Tiny Bookish Survey! :)
