Beaches, sun, and swimming was what Whitney thought she’d get when she moved all the way across the country to the Atlantic Coast. It was a chance to start over, a fresh start outside the paranormal night human world she grew up in. She was ready to be a normal human; one who didn’t have to worry about drinking blood or all the fighting that went on in that world.

Perfectionist Sam did everything well. He protected his family and friends as he swore he would. He had jobs to help everyone survive while they hid in plain sight. He even taught swimming lessons. His life was perfect, at least until Whitney showed up in his town. Without thinking of the consequences, Sam makes a choice to follow his heart for a change. That choice changes everything, maybe for better or for worse.
After one year of getting used to her new reality, Whitney discovers that maybe she was never meant to leave the night human world after all. Deciding to take swimming lessons, she is paired with high school hottie, Prince Sam as her friends called him. That one decision changes her life, and she’s quickly thrown right back into the night human world she thought she was getting away from. The only question is: Can she survive going back?

Cover Review

The cover is simply beautiful. It's magical and I love the fact that the girl in the cover looks exactly like Whitney. Trust me, I've seen covers with faces that have nothing to do with the characters in them whatsoever. So yes, I loved this cover!

Book Review:

First of all, thanks to Fiction-Atlas for the review copy!

It's been a very long time since I read a mermaid novel. Water And Blood was therefore much appreciated and refreshing.

I loved that it wasn't all pink and purple, all magical and fairytale-ish. I don't really enjoy those kind of books.

I loved Whitney's sass and her million questions. I loved that Sam was a good guy, unlike his people. I especially loved that the characters were well written.

She was sitting in the shower with the hot guy she had a crush on, and he was offering to feed her blood. Yep, it had to be Alternate Universe Day.
 -Whitney.

My most favorite part though, was the ending. It was well written and perfect. The perfect ending I could've asked for.

Water And Blood has sarcasm, wit, love, the usual 'problem' and an extremely well devised 'solution'. To sum it up, it's a perfect package.

  1. I've never noticed a purple mermaid before - but why not?

  2. I have absolutely no self control. I've gotten this one, as well. It looks like such a great book! If you really like mermaid stories, I reviewed a trilogy awhile ago that was really good. The first book is called Heartlocked and it's by C.S. Moore. I absolutely loved this series :) The third one isn't out yet so I am probably going to have to go back and re-read them before I read it lol.

  5. I don't normally do mermaids, because I'm not really an ocean person in general. But this sounds like it was a fun little read!
